Like many of her fans in America, I came across Kaori Yuki when her series, Angel Sanctuary, hit the English market. I almost instantaneously fell in love with the art work and the plot line just drew me in. Kaori Yuki became my favorite mangaka.

However, what many people don't seem to realize is that Kaori Yuki has more work than just her Angel Sanctuary, Count Cain/Godchild, and, more recently, her Fairy Cube series. No, throughout these series, Kaori Yuki has worked on many one shots each with their own beautiful artwork and their own plots. In fact, I don't believe anyone can correctly claim their favorite series from her without having first read many of her one shots.

Kaine, my favorite piece from her overall, is a lovely tale about a young man named Shinogu. Shinogu, who just lost his brother in a car accident, is forced to take the place of his rock star, twin brother, Kaine. With his hair dyed red, Shinogu has to change his quiet personality into the roaring one of Kaine's and, as a result, learns many dark secrets lurking behind his beloved brother's personality. However, anything that Kaori Yuki is never what it seems, and neither does this story remain so.

Kaine, by far, is one of Kaori Yuki's more normal series. The plot line is the most believable to occur, but still remains mystical. Over all, Kaori Yuki has won a special place with her Kaine and, despite its present unproduction in the United States, should be a must for every Kaori Yuki collector.
