I loved this story. It had the suspense of a Stephen King thriller and the fast paced action of James Patterson. The characters were well developed and tugged at your heart strings by the end of the story. This story begins with people who are flawed and have personal trials and tradgedies to overcome. The main characters, Claire Elliot and her son Noah have tried to begin anew after the death of Claire's husband to lymphoma. Noah is having difficulty and hates being uprooted from his home and friends in Baltimore and moved to a remote lakeside community where outsiders are viewed suspiciously. Claire is a family practice physician and has bought the practice of the recently deceased local doctor.
Then the violence starts. Teenagers are becoming uncontrollable and are fighting each other. Soon the killings start. A boy in Noahs class shoots his teacher and several students. Another boy slaughers his family.
Claire learns that this has happened before. Fifty two years ago, another teen slaughtered his family. The indians of the local area won't live near the lake and Claire learns that their indian name for the lake is Stream of Slaughter.
While this is happening, Claire is running into opposition from at least one doctor from a nearby town. Then there is a letter being sent to her patients asking them to question their decisions to continue to see Claire as their doctor.
The problems esculate, while Claire tries to find out the cause.
There are betrayals, twists and turns. I couldn't put the book down once I started it.
I recommend this book to anyone who loved fast paced adventure that doesn't skimp on character development.

Bloodstream was my first Tess Gerritsen novel, and I will definitely give others a try.
This interesting thriller did have some cliche elements to it, but somehow, they seemed to lend familiarity to the tale, rather than a feeling of "been there before."
The action is thrilling, however, and the science interesting.
All told, a novel which caught my imagination and I spent a great deal of time the past few days trying to find the chance to read more.
The heroine of the story isn't likable and the ending was a let down from an otherwise good book.
Not my favorite of Tess Gerritsen. Although the story was interesting to start I personally do not like getting the medical explanation so early in the book. We found out so early on what the mystery was, it was no longer a mystery novel, but a boring story about a small town. I will continue to read her work, because I am still a fan.
LOVE Tess' books! They are fabulous medical murder mysteries - fairly graphic and very knowledgeable in regards to descriptions. There is only a little "love"... mostly kissing and sleeping together but no graphic details so not out of place & does not deter from the main novel; just adds beautifully to it!
When teen-agers in a small Maine village start going feral and killing each other as well as adults, Claire, the new local GP, knows something is amiss. And it is story repeating. The village has a skeleton in the closet, and it involves murders in autumn. What is happening? Why do the kids suddenly turn violent? Why are so many people making life hell for Claire? Gerritsen creates great thrillers that chill you to the bone. You can tell she is a doctor herself - her medical descriptions are spot on and give credibility to her stories. I loved this one and highly recommend it to any thriller lovers out there.
I've read a lot of Tess Gerritsen's books and found this one OK. The prologue was definitely exciting enough to reel you in, but then the plot fizzled to a slow start. Finally the story got going, but then there was an abrupt ending, like there was suddenly a limit on the number of pages left. However, the middle was pretty good. Not her best book, but a good read. The story is about a Baltimore family practitioner who moves to a small town in Maine to remove her son from the bad influence of his peers, only to get embroiled in a rash of uncharacteristic teenage violence.
I read about 3-4 books a month. Naturally they all are not great, like this one. When I get lucky and come across a kindle special like "Bloodstream" it is like hitting a home run. I ret cause afford all of Dr Gerritsens books but I get every kindle book sends one I can.
like ALL her books there are some words of caution to new readers. Don't start reading at night if don't want to be up all night looking for a good place to break. There aren't any, all her books will keep you at the edge of your seat. The best way to read her books is to start at the beginning of a long weekend and enjoy the the ride
