Like many avid readers I occasionally "loan" a book that I strongly recommend to a friend. More often than not it becomes part of their permanent collection.

Not this time!

If you have time to read only one book this entire year, "Liberty and Tyranny, A Conservative Manifesto" by Mark R. Levin is the one to read. And, you need to do it before it is too late to understand all that is at stake in the need to reclaim our Liberty from the growing Tyranny that is jeopardizing our Country.

Actually, this is more than a book - it is a treatise of Conservative thought. It is meant to be studied more than read. It is the kind of book that is instantly relevant to the current times, while providing the historical context of why it is relevant. With over 600 Reviews already posted I won't repeat so many well-written thoughts here. Suffice it to say, however, that Mr. Levin presents us with the sharply contrasted views of Conservatives and Statists, and how they relate so starkly differently to the historical intent of the Constitution.

The author shows how the original intentions of the Constitution have been diluted/polluted by an activist Supreme Court and hyper-active/freedom usurping Liberals (Statists), beginning with the Roosevelt Administration and grossly expanded by Obama. Most importantly, Levin shows how the Liberal leaning Statist ideology has steadily eroded/corroded the individual rights and liberties of all Americans, and exploded entitlement dependency on government among "victims" groups.

History tells us that when liberties are lost to government they are seldom reclaimed. As a result we now have a Statist government that wants to redistribute wealth via the income tax, feels the need to guaranty results via affirmative action programs and government give-a-ways, uses illegal immigration as an electoral tool (while destroying American culture at great cost), and marginalizes the exceptionalism of America in the global environment. Is this what we want? Is this what the Constitution promised?

So much of this book seems more like a college-level course in advanced Civics, and common sense, than just another well intentioned, but otherwise undistinguished book that is read and forgotten.

Levin does not simply advance his thesis and end his book without solutions. He offers a call to activism with ten multi-part solutions for Conservatives to reclaim their Liberties and for America to reclaim the promise and the potential of the America as defined by the Constitution. They are all compelling.

Hey, it's only about preserving our liberty and saving our Country!

Read this book, and then, as I am about to do, read it again. Then, do something about it - if only to buy a second copy of the book to give to a friend.
I cannot praise Mark Levin enough for having the stamina and courage of his convictions to continue to try to educate the uniformed Americans in this country. Unfortunately, Ben Franklin was correct when he pronounced that we have a "REPUBLIC -- IF WE CAN KEEP IT!" We are losing it from within -- giving it away for some ridiculous concept propagated by progressive left-wingers from both parties who think our values are dead and that we need to become part of a global one-world nation. How sad for this once-great country!

I hate to admit it but I did like it. I hate levin with a passion, there are things in the book that are not well thought out, but I wouldn't expect anything less from levin. Its a great start for someone who knows there are problems and want to get to know more about whats going on politically but thinking on your own and supplemental reading will be necessary in the form of Rothbard, Ron Paul, the Mises Institute and other truly liberty minded people and organizations.
"Liberty and Tyranny" is an excellent book for understanding the US constitution, the foundering fathers and why our constitutional republic has stood the test of time. I highly recommend the book especially to liberals who seek to destroy our "perfect union" by giving the federal government powers over the people that are not specified in the US Constitution.

Every reader of "Liberty and Tyranny" will understand the real meaning of the X Amendment to the US Constitution which reads as follows"The Power not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
